RICE: Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation

NSAIDs: Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (Introduction)


The classic initial treatment of injuries comprises four parts: Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation.

Non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) may also help.

The following information is not a substitute for individual professional diagnosis and treatment.


Rest: Key Points

●   Ranges from partial to complete

●   Decrease training distance

●   Decrease training speed

●   Decrease hill work

●   Decrease frequency of training (number of times per week)

●   Cross train to maintain aerobic fitness

●   Runners: have at least several pairs of running shoes
